Volume II of Christmas Melodies: Double Stop Solos and Duets For Violin is quite a bit more challenging than Volume I. The double stops involve the use of the 4th finger and occasional triple stops. Students should be in at least late Suzuki book five, early book six or have studied some Handel Sonatas, the Accolay Concerto, La Folia, etc.
Like Volume I, arrangements of Christmas Carols appear first as duets, with the exact same notes then rewritten for one player as a double stop solo. By playing the duet first, students get an exact duplication of what the double stops should sound like. This is a very challenging Volume (I have to practice these every Christmas!), but it’s a fun way to improve your technical skills on the violin, while also dazzling your friends and family!
